Celebrating Over 20 Years in the Business of Giving Dance
Dear Dance Parent,
I look forward to sharing the gift of dance with your child. After many years, it continues to be a rewarding journey of my life! I was led to my love for dance at 8 years old dancing with the church praise and worship dance team under the leadership of Prophetess Sandra Calvin. When I was 9 years old, my parents enrolled me and my sisters in ballet classes at a local community center with Lucretia Roberson. It was there that I received the opportunity to train for just $20 a month. Years later, at the age of 15, my first job was teaching dance at that same community center! I too was then able to teach dance and mentor girls and boys of all ages; all while becoming a partner in their parents' journey to provide the best care for their children. I furthered my dance training at Centenary College and had the joy of serving as a performer and choreographer for Escaped Images Dance Company under the direction of Ginger Folmer. At Centenary, I was also a violinist for the Hurley Chamber Orchestra, and acted in various theater productions. In November of 2002, and with 20 students at St. Catherine Community Center dance program, I joined forces with long-time friend Terry Jackson as co- director and instructor at Christian Dance Center, and watched the studio grow. At CDC, I taught ages 3 to adult ballet, tap, and jazz. I also choreographed dances for every recital including dances performed by the MADD Dance Company that have been recognized and placed in competitions such as the Louisiana State Fair Dance Competition and the Streetz Dance Competition.
Over the years, I have worked with dozens of organizations including Caddo public and private schools, Bossier schools, Theater of Performing Arts, Wiley College, BPCC, Centenary College, local films, local theaters, dance studios, churches, and more. I have choreographed over 300 dance pieces and performed in countless productions including having danced on the Apollo Theater stage in New York City and danced on the televised Bobby Jones Gospel Artists Industry Retreat in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I can be seen dancing in scenes of the 2008 Denzel Washington film "The Great Debaters", choreographed by Diana Maroney-Grigsby, director of Grambling State University Orchesis Dance Company, and I served as a choreographer for the movie drama "Tekken". I graduated from Huntington High School as #2 in my class (2000), was Student Council President, and a Raider cheerleader. My bachelor degrees from Centenary College are in Finance and Business Administration. I received a Master of Business Administration from LSUS. I also hold a Series 7 securities license and am a FINRA and SEC registered securities representative with PFS Investments. I have spent the majority of my career in public finance, including working with with over $2.5 billion debt financing as an Investment Banker and in municipal budget and administration. In 2018, I received the honor of being recognized as one of the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce's top 40 under 40 young professionals. Most importantly, I am the proud wife of The Play Station co-owner Vernon Jones, and a proud mom of a 2 year old boy, Mason.
September, 2017 marked 20 years that I have had the joy of sharing the gift of dance to the young and young at heart. After over 2,000 hours of teaching and working with hundreds of dancers, I still find the most joy in working with each dancer individually.. Whether he or she wants to dance professionally, just for fun, to teach dance themselves someday, or just to be able to stand in the mirror and create beautiful movement and feel the strength in their body, calm in their mind, and lift in their spirit. The Play Station is committed to making a difference in your dancer's childhood development, and facilitating the friendships they create that last a lifetime.
My focus is on each child as an individual. Each have particular strengths and opportunities to grow that should be identified and developed. My goal is to learn each dancer's unique personality and understand what encourages them, their strengths, and opportunities for growth. I look forward to working with you and your dancer. I can't wait for the moments we will share in the progress they experience in their strength, skill, and self-confidence. The Play Station values our clients' trust. Your satisfaction is important. Please help us give your child a quality dance experience, and let us know what we're doing right and what we can do better.
Dancingly Yours, Sherricka Fields Jones
